Install dotTEST

The dotTEST installation consists of two parts: installing the dotTEST application proper and installing rule configuration.
  1. Install the dotTEST application
  2. Install the dotTEST rule configuration

Install the dotTEST application

  1. Normally, you can just rely on the TICS Windows installer to install the dotTEST code checker for you. Start the installer, select Multi Server (advanced), and enable TICS file server checkers. In case this does not install dotTEST, follow the steps below to accomplish this manually.

  2. Go to the TICS download site.

  3. Login (you should have received a username and password from TIOBE to login):

  4. Go to the directory installer and select the installer that is suited for your platform, e.g. "parasoft_dottest_9.5.8.exe" for the Windows platform.

  5. After downloading the setup file, run it and follow the steps in the installation wizard.

  6. To be able to use dotTEST, you have to activate the license. Start Visual Studio (e.g., via the Window start menu). It will contain a Parasoft menu entry and a dotTEST toolbar. Click the configuration preferences to configure the license.

  7. The dotTEST installation is complete.

Install the dotTEST rule configuration

  1. Normally, you can just rely on the TICS Windows installer to install the dotTEST rule configuration for you. Start the installer, select Multi Server (advanced), and enable TICS file server configuration. In case this does not install the dotTEST rule configuration files, follow the steps below to accomplish this manually.

  2. Go to the TICS download site.

  3. Login (you should have received a username and password from TIOBE to login):

  4. Go to the directory installer and select "abstractinterpretation-latest.zip".

  5. Download the file and extract its contents into the TICS configuration directory (pointed to by the %TICS% environment variable. You will end up with a abstractinterpretation directory that contains the dotTEST rule configuration.

  6. The installer should also have installed a dottest.properties file in the TICS cfg directory.

  7. The dotTEST custom rule files installation is complete.
